Why are Chittorgarh Fort Gates famous? It is about gates of the Chittorgarh fort and historical events occurred nearby these gates to protect the fort.
The Chittorgarh Fort has been secured by seven large gates that are called 'Pols.' These are called Padan Pol, Bhairav Pol, Hanuman Pol, Jodla Pol, Ganesh Pol, Lakshman Pol, and Ram Pol from bottom to top, respectively.
Several significant historical events took place near these gates. Today we are going to tell you about them.
A memorial of Rawat Bagh Singh of Devaliya (Pratapgarh) is built on a platform outside the first gate of the fort, Padan Pol. Rawat Bagh Singh died as a martyr at this place while protecting the fort during the attack of Sultan Bahadur Shah of Gujarat in 1534-35 AD. Later a memorial was built at the place in his memory.
The second gate ahead of Padan Pol is called Bhairav Pol. It is named after the Solanki Sardar Bairavdas of Desuri. Bahiravdas attained martyrdom at this place while fighting against the Sultan Bahadur Shah of Gujarat during the second Shaka of Chittor in 1534-35 AD.
Cenotaphs of brave Rajput warriors Jaimal and Kalla Rathore are built near the Bahirva Pol. These cenotaphs are built in the memory of those two Rajput heroes who sacrificed their lives in 1568 AD to protect the Chittorgarh Fort during the attack of Akbar.
A memorial of another Rajput hero, Patta Sisodia, is built at a little distance from the Ram Pol in the Fort. This is the same Patta who sacrificed his life along with Jaimal and Kalla during the third Shaka in Chittor while defending the fort from Akbar's attack in 1567-68 AD.
