Why does Maharana of Mewar visit Dhuni after coronation? It is about the coronation of Maharana of Mewar and tradition of Dhuni Darshan in city palace.
According to an old tradition that has been going on for the last 400 years, after the coronation, it is very important for the new Maharana to visit the Dhuni in the City Palace of Udaipur and Eklingji in Kailashpuri. This tradition can be considered as a part of the coronation.
Today we are going to explore and know about the place in the City Palace of Udaipur where this Dhuni is present and will also understand about the reason that makes this Dhuni very important to the royal family.
Before the construction of the City Palace, a sage by the name of Premgiri Maharaj used to meditate at this place. Once when Maharana Udai Singh visited this place, Premgiri Maharaj asked the Maharana to build a palace at this place and establish a city here.
With the blessing of the sage, Maharana Udai Singh laid the foundation of the palace at this place and started the construction work. The first part of the palace, which got constructed in 1559 AD, is called Nau Chowki Mahal. With the construction of the palace, Maharana also established the Udaipur city.
Built by Maharana Udai Singh, this place is divided into nine equal parts between sixteen pillars. From time to time, all the Maharanas got it renovated; some of them got plastering done in it, while some got grills and brass doors installed in it.
There is a Dhuni in the middle of the Nau Chowki palace that belongs to the ascetic Goswami Premgiri Maharaj. Due to the presence of the holy Dhuni of the saint in this palace, there is a tradition of the coronation of all the Maharanas of Mewar after Maharana Amar Singh I in front of this palace.
It is believed that after taking the blessing from the Duni, the blessings of the saint remain on the Maharana and the royal family, and they face no problems in any of their works.
This palace that was first started by Maharana Udai Singh at this place was later subsequently expanded by the later Maharanas according to their own needs. The huge form of the City Palace that we see today started from this Dhuni place of Premgiri Maharaj.
