Why is Aurangzeb Tomb famous? It is about the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb located in Khuldabad near Aurangabad or Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.
Aurangzeb ruled for 49 years, out of which the last 25 years of his life were spent fighting the Maratha rulers.
Aurangzeb believed in Sufi saints a lot, due to which he had a special attachment to a place named Roza, famous for Sufi saints. This place is 25 kilometers away from Aurangabad.
Today, this place named Roza is known as Khuldabad and Aurangabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Aurangzeb died in 1707 AD in Ahmednagar (Maharashtra) at the age of 88, but as per his wish, he was buried near the dargah of Sufi saint Zainuddin Shirazi in Khuldabad.
In this way, the grave or mausoleum of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb is present in Khuldabad near Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Aurangzeb's grave was built with his own earned money according to his will.
Aurangzeb's grave is very simple and under an open roof. There is only a small Sabja i.e. Tulsi plant with soil on top of the grave. His full name is written on the stone near the grave.
It is said that only 14 rupees 12 annas were spent in building Aurangzeb's grave and he earned this money himself by weaving caps.
Actually, Aurangzeb lived a very simple life. He used to sew caps for his personal expenses. He also wrote the Quran by hand.
As a king, Aurangzeb was such a cruel ruler who imprisoned his father and killed his brothers and nephews. He launched a campaign to demolish temples all over India.
In fact, he wanted to make India Darul Islam i.e. the home of Islam, but the Marathas in South India did not let his plans succeed, among whom the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is prominent.
