Why is Surya Mandir Udaipur famous? In this we have given information about the ancient temple with artistic sculptures present in Mandesar, Udaipur.
Today we are going to take you to a place which was once the main center for prediction of famine and rain.
Surrounded by artistic sculptures on all sides, this place was destroyed several times by Muslim invaders and then resettled and is still present in its place silently.
Situated on the banks of a main river of Mewar for the last one thousand years, this place has not yet come into the eyes of the people, due to which the number of tourists visiting here is very less.
This place is a Surya temple dedicated to Lord Surya, which is believed to be built in the 10th century. It was built by the rulers of Mewar at that time.
Situated on the banks of the Bedach river originating from Udaisagar, this Surya temple is present in Mandesar village behind Maharana Pratap Airport.
A small anicut has been built in front of the temple to stop the river water. During the rainy season, when this anicut overflows, the beauty of this place increases a lot.
The temple is built on a high platform. Though the temple does not look very big, it definitely looks ancient.
The temple has Pravesh Mandap, Sabha Mandap and Garbha Griha, all three are present but it does not have a shikhara. There were many beautiful and artistic idols all around the temple, out of which very few are left now.
