Why is Udai Sagar Lake famous? It is about the famous Udai Sagar Lake built by Maharana Udai Singh at the time of the establishment of Udaipur.
Udai Sagar Lake of Udaipur is built by stopping the water of the Ayad River. After leaving Udai Sagar, the name of this river becomes Bedach, which later joins the Banas River.
Udai Shyam Temple, Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple and Shiva Temple are built on one side of the lake's embankment. These temples were built at the time of construction of the lake.
Many artistic statues have been made on the outer walls and roof of the Udai Shyam Temple. Lord Vishnu is seated in the temple and his vehicle Garuda is present outside the temple. Some cenotaphs are built on the embankment.
Kalika Mata Temple is built in front of these cenotaphs. Ruins of some other temples are present around the embankment. It is said that these temples were demolished by Aurangzeb during the time of Maharana Raj Singh.
Beyond the dam, there is a temple of Udai Sagar Bheru Nath Ji and Narsingh Mata. Behind this temple, there are lake gates. Near these gates, two canals come out on the right and left side for irrigation.
When the lake overflows, its gates are opened. At that time, this place turns into a picnic spot. The water flowing from the gate looks very beautiful, which attracts a crowd of people to see.
A little further on the left side canal going from the lake gate, there are two palaces built by Maharana Jagat Singh. Now these palaces have completely turned into ruins.
