Why Raj Rajeshwar Mandir Debari famous? It is about Raj Rajeshwar Mahadev temple near Debari gate of Udaipur built in the memory of Maharana Raj Singh.
Ancient Rajrajeshwar Mahadev temple is built on a high platform in front of Debari gate in Udaipur. Four-faced Shivbaan made of black stone is present in the sanctum sanctorum of this grand temple, which rests on many pillars.
The four faces of the Shivbaan statue depict four different types of expressions, which include Shanti Rasa in the east, Raudra Rasa in the south, Prem Rasa in the west and Adbhut Rasa in the north.
Beautiful statues are installed at many places along with the pillars in the temple, which add to the beauty of the temple.
Now we talk about the stepwell built in front of the temple. This stepwell is one-faced in which 48 steps are built. The stepwell has two pavilions made of pillars, 3 perimeters and 29 niches.
There were idols of many gods and goddesses in these niches of the stepwell but now only a few of them are left, the ones that are left include Gajalakshmi, Hanuman, Ganesh, Vishnu, Kali Mata and Kartikeya.
A part of the stepwell and the Dharamshala near it have been demolished while constructing the highway. The Rajrajeshwar temple and a Dharamshala along with this stepwell were built after the death of Maharana Rajsingh by his mother Bakht Kanwar or Bakht Kunwari for the welfare of the people.
