Why is Jaisamand Lake famous? It is about the Dhebar or Jaisamand lake near Udaipur which is second largest man-made freshwater lake in Asia.
Jaisamand lake near Udaipur is also called Dhebar lake, which used to be the largest man-made freshwater lake in Asia when it was built, but since the construction of Govind Vallabh Pant Sagar lake, this lake has become second.
This lake is so big that there are seven islands in its middle and tribal families live on some of them. During the rainy season, water from 9 rivers and 99 streams comes into this lake.
There are beautiful marble elephants in front of the lower steps of the lake's embankment. When the water of the lake reaches the chain of the elephant's feet at the last end, then the lake overflows and starts spilling.
It is said that in ancient times, when the water reached the raised trunk of the elephants, this lake used to overflow, but once the lower areas of the lake were filled with water, its height was reduced.
There are 6 white cenotaphs on the dam, in the middle of which, i.e. after 3 cenotaphs, there is the Narbadeshwar Mahadev temple built by Maharana Jai Singh.
There is also a wildlife sanctuary near the lake surrounded by Aravalli hills on all sides, in which many types of rare animals live.
If we talk about the history of Jaisamand Lake, then it was built in the 17th century by Maharana Jai Singh by stopping the water of the Gomti River.
It is said that on the day of its inauguration, Maharana Jai Singh had weighed gold equal to his weight and donated it. This lake is called the Ocean of Victory or the Sea of Rajasthan.
