Why is Kalika Mata Jhamar Kotda famous? It is about the Mahakali Mata of Jhamar Kotda which was brought by Maharana Uday Singh from Chittorgarh.
Kalika Mata temple is present on a hill near the famous Jhameshwar Mahadev temple in Jhamar Kotda of Udaipur, which is more famous by the name of Garhwali Mahakali.
It is believed that Maharana Uday Singh brought this idol of Kalika Mata with him from Chittorgarh to settle Udaipur, but Mataji sat on the hill near the cave of Bholenath in Jhamar Kotda.
It is also said that Maharana Uday Singh thought of establishing the city of Udaipur on this and built a rampart at this place, the remains of which can still be seen.
Later, due to some reason, Udaipur could not be established at this place, but the service and worship of the idol of Mataji is being done continuously since that time.
It is also believed that Mahakali had ordered Maharana Udai Singh not to establish the city of Udaipur at this place, after which Maharana went towards the hills of Girwa.
There are molten rocks millions of years old in Jhamar Kotda and in the cave built under one of these rocks, Lord Shiva is present in the form of Jhameshwar Mahadev.
