Why is Trimukhi Baori Debari famous? It is about historical stepwell of Debari near Udaipur which was built by wife of Maharana Raj Singh Ramras De.
Mewar is the stronghold of stepwells. The Maharanas here built stepwells for public welfare so that drinking water is supplied to the general public in times of famine and disaster.
These stepwells built in public places are still very famous for their beauty and craftsmanship. In medieval India, these stepwells, apart from being a source of drinking water, were also the center of religious, social and cultural activities.
Ancient inscriptions are also found on these stepwells, from which we get important information about the historical and social life of that time. Due to historical evidence, these stepwells have started being counted among important historical sites.
In this sequence, today we talk about the Trimukhi stepwell in Debari near Udaipur. This step well was built in 1675 AD by Maharana Raj Singh's queen Ramras De.
It is called Trimukhi step well because it has three decorated entrances. It is also called Jaya step well.
There is a stone inscription in the step well which mentions the achievements of kings from Bappa Rawal to Maharana Raj Singh. Along with this, information about Malpura Vijay, Charumati Vivah and Sarvaritu Vilas Bagh is also given.
The step well has the idols of Ganesha and Bhairava. Due to the presence of a Ganesh temple near the step well, it is now known as Trimukhi Ganesh step well.
