Bhog prasad used to be different in different times. When there was no farming and Shiva was the main worshiped deity, then dhatura, bhang, mandar, flowers and milk etc. were offered as bhog.
When man used to hunt and Kali Mata was the main worshiped deity, then sacrifice, liquor and tantra etc. were dominant in their worship. At this time, Goddess Durga remained the protector of the forts of the kings.
When farming and animal husbandry started, then Lord Vishnu became the main worshiped deity. At this time farming and animal husbandry got priority due to which food and milk items started being used for bhog. At this time Lord Vishnu started being worshipped mainly in the form of Lord Krishna.
